Willa Jean

Without being in the know, visitors of New Orleans may skip over the best part about Willa Jean (the chicken sandwiches) because of everything else that shines on this menu. That said, 2 iterations of the classic chicken sandwich are can't miss, the fried chicken biscuit with tabasco honey and more classic fried chicken sandwich served with serrano slaw and sambol mayo on a Hawaiian roll.

The Chloe

The Chloe

Chef Todd Pulsinelli heads up the restaurant inside of the Chloe after a decorated 15 year culinary career at some of the best restaurants in New Orleans. Serving fresh takes on creole classics; a take on the classic chicken sandwich has been a centerpiece on his menus. At The Chloe, the chicken sandwich takes shape featuring chicken katsu, Japanese style thinly fried chicken breasts. It's served on white bread with a bacon onion ranch marmalade. Sit poolside, on the front patio or in a more classic dining room the whole menu is impressive with a cocktail list to match but the upscale twist on a classic sandwich is a favorite of locals.

Blue Oak BBQ

Blue Oak BBQ

Blue Oak is such a versatile BBQ restaurant that it could show up on most lists on this site. Showing some restraint, the chicken sandwich list is a place that Blue Oak needs to be (just ask Cam Jordan). Originally a Tuesday only special, Blue Oak makes a Nashville style hot chicken fried sandwich. The fried chicken is dipped, coated, swimming, bathing and generally vibing with a sweet & spicy glaze, topped with pickles & a white BBQ sauce served on a sesame bun. Rumor has it that a week long block party popped up in Mid-City after the much anticipated announcement that this sandwich was now on the regular menu at Blue Oak and no longer just a Tuesday special. Still, head over to Blue Oak's instagram and tag a bunch of friends every Tuesday for a chance to win free Chicken Sandwiches for you and a friend.

Picnic Provisions & Whiskey

Picnic Provisions & Whiskey serves up chicken sandwiches with purpose. They self describe purpose as “Purpose fuels one’s soul, and the hospitality we provide our guests is our purpose in life”. The three founders of this uptown jaunt back up their words, Tory McPhail, Ti Martin & Darryl Reginelli are the who's who of New Orleans culinary experiences from leading Commander's Palace to a trophy case of James Beard awards to New Orleans most popular pizza chain. This experience translates to a chicken sandwich that transcends even what you'd expect in New Orleans. Their most famous iteration of this class sandwich is a hot fried chicken thigh sandwich, served with a lemony miso mayo and milliton dill pickles.
